Chicago's City Farm: A Closer Look

City Farm is the source of the vegetables at many of the city's finest restaurants, though the organization also runs an on-site market. In total, the group sells $45,000 a year, not bad for a small farm.

With 30,000 to 80,000 vacant lots covering 10,000 acres in Chicago proper, the city has plenty of potentially re-developable space. The goal of the Urban Farm founders is to spread their effort to as much of that emptiness as possible.
