The Marquess and Three kings.

61994- The Great Marquess at Irwell Vale.

The Remnant Kings by Ian Randall 1997.

Part of the30 mile Irwell Valley sculpture trail which begins in Salford Quays and ends in the South Pennine moors.

Materials are Ash, steel and dry stone walling. The sculpture refers to the remnants of the once thriving textile and mining industries of the area and what may develop in the valley in the future. The large timber sections, made from local ash are cradled in cogs. The structure suggests movement, throwing the timber forward and releasing the stones within it's folds, like seeds bringing new growth . Remnant Kings stand proud on the hillside watching over the kingdom waiting for the chance to scatter.

Not a lot of people know that!

Worth putting in the explanation!
