My photos of Val d'Anniviers

by echumachenco

I spent two days in mid-July 2011 in the high valley above Zinal, during which I hiked to the fantastically situated Cabane du Grand Mountet and back. I was thrilled by that place, and I knew I had to go back to Zinal some time again. In August 2013 I did so and had an equally thrilling three days hiking to Cabane de Tracuit (3256m) and over the Col de Milon to Cabane de l'Ar Pitetta (also named Arpitettaz). I prefer Zinal to for instance Zermatt insofar as that the Zinal side of the 4000ers of the Valais has remained untouched. There are no cable-cars or ski-lifts whatsoever in that direction - every ascent has to be done from the sole of the valley. Zinal itself has remained a village - one can still feel the spirit of the days of Edward Whymper, Michel Croz and the other achievers of first ascents in the Pennine Alps in the 1800s.
Val d'Anniviers is a part of Switzerland I can warmly recommend.
