Picturesque as this artificial lake appears, it has a very tragic story of harm and injustice done to hundreds of people who were forced to abandon their homes when the valley got flooded once the dam had been completed in 1946. The rising of the water level was done without giving the inhabitants of the former village of Graun / Curon Venosta any warning beforehand.
