On Tartscher Bühel above Malles / Mals, South Tyrol
"Tartscher Bühel" is an almost barren hill right above the little village of Tartsch, just above Mals in the top part of the Vinschgau, or Val Venosta, in South Tyrol (Italy). Already in pagan days it was a place of worship, and in the 11th century, the little church of Saint Vitus, which has remained unchanged for a thousand years, was built there. In the distance one can see the Orgelspitze (3305m), one of the mountains of the Ortler-Cevedale range.
