Tis the season to hunt

The Great Egret often overlooked by photographers and birders is an elegant, charismatic bird that we may have never seen as it was almost hunted to extinction because of it's plumes.

It is the symbol of the National Audoban Society. While hunting they do so in classic heron fashion, standing still and waiting for the opportune moment to strike fish with deadly accuracy. One of the first laws to protect birds was passed for these guys and they rebounded and now hunt our marshes during summer.
