Astley Crossing, Derby Class 108 (13.02 Liverpool Lime Street - Manchester Victoria) January 30th 1987.

Sub zero temperatures on Chat Moss as a Derby 108 DMU works through Astley crossing with a Liverpool - Manchester local.

My 1978 Ford Cortina 2.0S features on the right. Bought it from a mate for £750 and did a lot of miles in it until it was stolen from the Dock Road in Liverpool. Royal Insurance paid out £725, I was on mileage at work at the time so the car paid for itself!

* A look at my notes for this day told me I was on the picket line for strike duty later that afternoon after a morning here.

I photographed six Peaks, a Rat on ballast, a failed 47 on the 07.50 York - Llandudno which had been rescued by a Railfreight 31, two tank trains and many DMU's.
