The Haydock Branch back in 1991 and petroleum sector 31302 & 31288 move off after notifying the bobby that they have cleared the WCML. This section of track called the Haydock Chord opened to traffic in April 1968 to give access to Ashton (BP Shell Mex) Oil distribution depot also access for empties into Golborne Colliery. By the winter of 1983 that traffic had gone leaving only Lowton Metals at Ashton. A new traffic flow of Bitumen to Kelbits for road surfacing products opened on the land formerly Cromptons rolling mills and was in production until 2005 when the work was transfered to Preston Docks.
