Trans Pennine Express Hitachi Bi-mode IET 802 210 glides into Newton-le-Willows station this evening with the 16.25 Liverpool - Newcastle. Well loaded but with space to spare, I wonder if its young upwardly mobile passengers are happy with their new trains? Newton-le-Willows has had £21.5M spent on the new station but unbelievably the platforms are not long enough to accommodate these new trains, the back two cars are locked out and passengers have to walk forward to alight!
* I am told it is a further £1M per 100 feet, both sides. Construction contracts for NR is the business to be in!
