Santa has delivered Giftboxes to members of HMS Protectors ships company from the charity UK4U. Every year UK4U delivers gift boxes to members of the armed forces who are deployed over the christmas period.

HMS Protector is deployed to the Antarctic region in order to demonstrate Her Majesty’s Government intent in support of the Antarctic Treaty and the Commissioner for the British Antarctic Territory. Also to conduct survey operations in order to understand the environment and inform future work in the Antarctic Region.

In the twelve months since HMS PROTECTOR departed the UK, she has circumnavigated the globe and visited every continent. As Christmas approaches, HMS PROTECTOR will sail some of the most remote and inhospitable regions of the planet as a visible representation of the United Kingdom’s commitment to the Antarctic Treaty as well as conducting hydrographic survey work and delivering vital supplies to the British Antarctic Survey bases in the region.

PROTECTOR, which is deployed on operations for 330 days a year, is capable of positioning to centimetric accuracy in winds of up to 80 knots and is fitted with an impressive array of specialist equipment, including: a hull mounted multi-beam echo sounder; a state-of-the-art survey Motor Boat (SMB) ‘James Caird IV’; a 8.5m ramped Work Boat, ‘Terra Nova’; high speed rigid inflatable and inflatable boats; quad bikes and trailers and Land Rovers.
