Because of the frequency of fire in Australia's wilderness burnt out hollows actually form a very important niche habitat, to the point where some birds depend on the hollows on specific species in which to live. The current changes in fire practice and tree species diversity has threatned many keystone species. Another reason why everything is connected and we should humble ourselves before the complexity of natural systems.
