Most of the high volcanic Andes are the dries kind of desert, but there are occasional wetlands high in the mountains, peat bogs or peatlands where the wildlife gather to graze and drink. We visited a few, and they're quite lovely, and have the most amazing wildlife! This one near the tiny village of Machuca had horned coots, of all things.
