Velaro High-speed Train
At 350 km/hour the Velaro high-speed train is the fastest EMU in the world. The Velaro has a fuel consumption of just 0.33 litres per seat over a distance of 100 kilometres - which is as much as a can of Coca Cola. It takes just two and a half hours to travel the 625 kilometer journey from Madrid to Barcelona (instead of four hours like previous trains). In total rail transport generates 75 percent less in CO2 emissions than aircraft and 60 percent less than cars. Increased attractiveness with shorter cycle times, improved comfort and greater safety are the key prerequisites for switching to rail, the environmentally-friendly form of transport.
