Rita Crane Photography: Ponte Santa Trinita & Palazzo Frescobaldi, Florence
It was early enough that only a very few people were out and about, peacefully crossing the bridge on this quiet winter morning under a cloudy sky. I decided to add some subtle textures to the original image to accentuate the historic quality of this fantastic architecture of Firenze that I love so much! (The marble sculptures along the bridge depict the four seasons. You can see two of them in this photo.) This is a view of the L'Oltrarno - the opposite side of the Arno from the Duomo. There is no street along this part of the bank as you can see.
Ponte Santa Trinita. What can I say: a superbly elegant Renaissance treasure!

The Ponte Santa Trinità (Italian for Holy Trinity Bridge) is a Renaissance bridge in Florence, Italy, spanning the Arno river. The bridge has three spans. The outside spans each measure 29 meters (95 ft) with the center span being 32 meters (105 ft) in length. Having been constructed by the Florentine architect Bartolomeo Ammanati from 1567 to 1569 alongside the equally remarkable Ponte Vecchio, the Ponte Santa Trinita is the oldest elliptic arch bridge in the world. The flattened ellipses give the structure its celebrated elegant appearance. The bridge was destroyed by retreating German troops on 8 August 1944, but reconstructed in 1958 with original stones raised from the Arno or taken from the same quarry.
And for my Flickr friends who love history, here is a romantic painting for you: "Dante Sees Beatrice on the Ponte Santa Trinita" www.flickr.com/photos/italiangerry/399703395/
