Rita Crane Photography: Canal du Midi at Dusk, France
Still playing with textures, Flickr friends. :0) Thanks for stopping by!
This is a scene along the Canal du Midi, in southern France, near the Montagne Noir. The Canal du Midi joins the Atlantic to the Mediterranean via the Garonne River. Little streams from the Montagne Noir nearby were diverted and held in this pond in case the water level of the canal ever needed to be adjusted. This pond is THE middle point along the canal, between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic....kind of like the Continental Divide is the middle point of the east and west slopes of the Rocky Mountains.
Voici la page internet de Wikipedia ou l'on peut trouver une excellente histoire et description du Canal, un oeuvre exceptionel des ingenieurs de l'epoque: fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canal_du_midi
Here's a great description of the Canal du Midi, an amazing feat of 17th century engineering! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canal_du_Midi. I really recommend checking out both French and English Wikipedia links for pictures of this great canal. I've added an excerpt in a comment below.
Thanks to the following Flickr friends for textures: Le Grand ("Glass"), Bocaccino ("93BB"), and SkeletalMess ("Tainted").
