Exploring a New Cybertron
The new vehicular form of Soundwave rolled across the Cybertronic landscape while the Decepticon ran internal diagnostics, checking on the system status of his new features. This was a background system function as Soundwave needed to place his focus on his environment, an environment that was hostile indeed. At every bend, Soundwave was under threat of being detected by one of the hordes of Vehicons that roamed the planet and he was not so certain that his communication tower mode would fool his enemy a second time. He had to complete the self-diagnostic as soon as he could so that he would be able to correct any issues that he would identify in order for him to have a fully functioning form. Soundwave needed a fully functioning body to ensure that he was able to complete his primary mission: acquiring the necessary equipment and supplies to deliver his master, the earth-bound original Megatron, a new form.
Back on Earth, the once mighty Megatron, the tyrannical, legendary commander of the Decepticon force, had now been reduced to transport duties with an alternate form of a rundown earthen eighteen-wheel truck. Forced by the time disturbance to change his form in an effort to permanently rid himself of the vile abomination, the maniacal essence of Galvatron that had plagued Megatron's conscience for a questionable number of years, Megatron eventually found himself at the mercy of Cobra Commander. The human commander of the terrorist organisation known as Cobra Command had formed a treaty of sorts with the earthbound Decepticon forces, a treaty where trust between the two factions was tenuous at best. Eventually Cobra Commander had his longtime suspicion confirmed; Megatron had plotted treason! Cobra Commander's retribution was swift and brutal and it left the Decepticon leader crippled. Cobra Commander had commissioned a new body for Megatron, a body that was purposefully incomplete, leaving Megatron in perpetual pain and constantly vulnerable. Megatron was taken from the Cobra-Decepticon compound and forced to run endless menial transport duties at the beckon call of Cobra.
Stretching far longer back than Cobra's alliance with the Decepticons was a Decepticon alliance with Zartan. While Cobra was loosely aware of this potentially treacherous alliance, Cobra had thus far been unsuccessful in stopping it, much to the delight of both Megatron and Zartan alike. It was through this relationship that the designs of Megatron's ultimate form was designed; a perfect marriage of Transformer and human technology that led to the perfect technorganic design. This ultimate form would forever rid Megatron of the burden of his eternal bond with the insane essence of Galvatron, born of the time disturbance and allow Megatron a vessel to rise to power once again. Scrapper, the former leader of the Decepticon faction known as the Constructicons, had developed with the aid of Zartan and his cohorts, the schematics for Megatron's ultimate body that Soundwave now carried within him. There was one final component that was missing, a component that could only be found in the lair of the diabolical associate of the Tripredacus Council, Tarantulus. All records would show that the vile Tarantulus had left Cybertron near the turn of the earthen millennium, in seek of mastery of an ancient power called the Force in a galaxy far, far away. Soundwave had no evidence to support that Tarantulus had returned to Cybertron and expected his lair to be vacant, but dangerous nevertheless.
One of the problems that Soundwave had discovered in his orbit of his home planet was that the face of Cybertron had changed dramatically since he was last there. It was evident through his orbital analysis that the son of Megatron had sanctioned an unprecedented amount of terraforming. This was not the same Cybertron that the Decepticon communicator was familiar with and tracking down the lair of Tarantulus could take some time. Soundwave realized that the first thing he must do is find a reference point that he could scaffold his search around.
The location that Soundwave chose to use as navigational point of reference was the city of Kaon, home of the infernal Smelting Pit along with the notorious Decepticon fortress Kolkular. According to the information that Soundwave had gathered while in orbit, he currently found himself three days worth of travel away from the Decepticon hub. The lair of Tarantulus was subterranean, located deep below the outskirts of the Decepticon city. Soundwave knew that Tarantulus had built his lair close to the Smelting Pit and had diverted some of the incredible amount of energy used to power the Pit to fuel his home. Soundwave could use his information to his benefit on arrival.
The Decepticon knew that there was a directly relationship between his proximity to Kaon and his risk of being discovered. Kaon was the home of the Decepticon empire and although the entire planet was a threat, nowhere was more treacherous that the Decepticon hub. Megatron's Generals controlled their millions of drones from the hub and activity in and out of the city was constant. Soundwave would have to be on full alert to successfully avoid detection, a considerable request when accepting the fact that he was so very new to his body. However, he knew that there was no time to lose.
