Kitchen Computer

The Kitchen Computer was listed in the 1969 Neiman Marcus catalog and its marketing targeted rich housewives who wanted an innovative way to store and retrieve recipes. Unfortunately, the price tag was prohibitive and the interface was accompanied by a steep learning curve. These factors ensured that the Kitchen Computer was a market failure.

However, the Kitchen Computer was a milestone in computer history because it was one of the first instances of a computer being made for the as yet untapped consumer market. Moreover, the Kitchen Computer was designed with physical aesthetics in mind, which was an important step in establishing computers as more than mere utilitarian machines.
