Modeled after the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon in Washington, D.C., the first Solar Decathlon Europe took place in Madrid, Spain, in June 2010. Spanish Minister of Housing Beatriz Corredor officially opened the first Solar Decathlon Europe on June 17 before touring some of the houses.
