Missile Command

When I shot this, it reminded me of an old arcade game. I couldn't remember the name so I did a quick google search and found it - Missile Command! I wasn't sure if anyone else would even be aware of it but there is a whole Wikipedia page dedicated to it, so I guess it was pretty popular.

An interesting fact from Wikipedia:

"When the game was originally designed, the six cities were meant to represent six cities in California: Eureka, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

While programming Missile Command, the programmer, Dave Theurer, suffered from nightmares of these cities being destroyed by a nuclear blast."

In retrospect, I think for us kids the game was a good way to psychologically control the fear of the nuclear holocaust that seemed imminent in the late 70s and early 80s.

Coincidentally, the city of San Luis Obispo mentioned in the Wiki quote above is just over the ridge - almost directly in the trajectory of those missiles.
