1991 BTCC BMW M3
This is a works-entered BMW Team Listerine (Vic Lee Motorsport) BMW M3 as driven during the 1991 Esso RAC British Touring Car Championship by Will Hoy and Ray Bellm.
1991 marked the first full year of the 2-litre Super Touring category. This was introduced to break the stranglehold that the Ford Sierra RS500 had on the BTCC.
This car won three races in 1991 in the hands of Will Hoy, giving the Englishman the championship. Ray Bellm ended the season fifth overall.
BMW entered three works teams in 1991, the others being BMW Team Finance (Prodrive) and BMW Team Labatts (also Vic Lee Motorsport). With a wealth of driving talent, including Steve Soper, Tim Sugden, Tim Harvey, Laurence Bristow, Armin Hahne and ex-Formula 1 drivers Jonathan Palmer and Christian Danner, the BTCC title was only going to one manufacturer. Across the works teams, BMW won eight races to clinch the manufacturers title from Vauxhall.
