safe and sound
What a horrible day I had yesterday!
It started with my son calling me....a rarity in itself....usually it's me who calls to check in with him, with him always sounding slightly annoyed that I don't think he can handle taking care of a few cats..
So, he announces that Floydd has not shown up for the morning feeding, and he can't find him. I didn't immediately panic. "Morning Feeding" is a relative term when your talking about my son, who usually rolls out of bed around the crack of noon.. Chances were that Floydd had given up on breakfast and had moved on to the early afternoon nap, he is not as driven by his stomach as Leo or Simon is.. When he zonks out, he's dead to the world and not responding to ANYTHING! He also squirrels himself away in little hidy-holes.
It wasn't until Larry got back home later in the afternoon, and Floydd still had not surfaced,. and Larry said he had checked the entire house thoroughly, I realize that Floydd must have gotten out, and THEN I started to panic. Chris and Larry searched the entire neighborhood. Knocked on doors....put a sign in the corner convenience store. I felt SO compelled to get in the car and drive home, but realized that there was nothing I could do that Larry and Chris were not already doing.
Long story short.....(and a WHOLE bunch of tears later), I finally got a text from my son around 2a.m., saying that Floydd had finally showed up. Chris heard him crying outside the backdoor, when the thunder started to roll from a storm that was blowing through.
I hope this teaches everyone to be A LOT more vigilant when they go out the door. That little orange bugger is QUICK! If your not paying attention he can slip right through your feet!
He doesn't stake out the door often, but if he has his little heart set on escaping he can be pretty persistent. .
