cleaning house

one of the adult house wrens, leaving the nesting box on the porch with some unwanted debris.

This box is really old. It was hanging on the porch when Larry bought the place back in the early 70's. I believe the gentleman that owned the property before Larry built it.

Nothing special to look at....the tin roof is battered and curling, but it's by far the most popular box on the property.

Every spring the chickadees and house wrens battle over squatting rights.

Last week, while I was up home I noticed the parents coming and going, almost non-stop , and every time I walked out onto the porch and made any noise at all it would set off a chorus of little "cheeps" coming out of the box.

Sounds like there are a lot of hungry mouths to feed in there!
