The Elderberry Tree
this tree and another one that stands right next to it actually stand on my neighbors yard, right on the other side of the fence. It is by far the messiest tree to deal with for me. In the fall the berries fall all over my back patio and really make a mess. Everytime I open my kitchen door it's leaves blow in the door. But the birds LOVE it. The robins that over-winter here eat the fruit all winter long, and the one and only time I have seen cedar waxwings in my yard they were swarming all over that tree devouring the berries. They stayed for a whole day, until they picked the tree clean, and left. I haven't seen any since
. When it starts to drop it's blooms it looks like it's snowing out! I love to look up into it when it looks like this in the spring, it gives off the slightest sweet scent.
