At 0023 on Saturday 1st December 2012 Wymondham box closed for the last time and the absolute block Brecklands line signal boxes between Norwich and Ely were no more. The first batch of boxes between Shippea Hill and Thetford closed over the weekend of 18th/19th August 2012. The second and final batch were replaced over the weekend of 1st & 2nd of December but in reality the possession over ran and was not given up until the afternoon of Monday 3rd December.
Harling Road, Eccles Road, Poplar Farm Crossing crossing box, Attleborough, Spooner Row and Wymondham are now no more the area now being controlled by modular signalling utilising new lightweight signals and level crossings using obstacle detection. The signalling is now all controlled from Cambridge.
