Prescot Signal Box 1
Unloved and uncared for. Prescot signal box closed on the 25th September. Seemingly unnoticed by most.
A hotch-potch of a box, constructed as late as 1953 utilising timber components which are clearly of LNW origin located on a BR standard base and containing a BR “Derby” frame.
Acting as a simple block post breaking the section between St Helens Station and Huyton Junction it is another box which I visited as a youth. At that time the adjacent BICC cable factory was served on a daily basis by a trip freight and thus the sidings were still in use. The remnants, disconnected, are still in situ in part.
Seen on a lovely sunny 5th July 2012 ten weeks prior to closure.
