The Big Blue Sky

Artist: Daniel Balter

Medium: Soft (chalk) pastel on Canson's , Mi-Teintes, pastel paper: Earth colors.

Size: 9" x 12" (22,9 x 30,5 cm)

Date: 07-22-2011

Details: I got a sunburn on my face, hands, and feet while doing this pastel painting. Maybe the risk of sunburn is the reason why so many plein-air painters recommend not only taking insect repellent but sunblock and a big hat. I read that Vincent van Gogh when he was painting in Arles went without a hat and was baked out there in the sun and wind. That poor fair-skinned Dutchman!
