As part of a long list of Officer Cadets who form the Special Reserve of Officers, William Adam Ferrar Binn was assigned to the Kings Royal Rifle Corps.

The 2 year old William A F Binns, born Worcester, was recorded on the 1901 census at Mayfield Villa, Gillam Street, in the Parish of St Barnabas, Worcester. This was the household of his parents, although only his father, William M, (aged 39 and an Art Superintendent at the Worcester Porcelain Works) was present on the night of the census. Elinor M. was staying in Burnham, Somerset, living with her widowed mother Margaret H Bird, (aged 58 and from Kidderminster, Worcestershire, who was living on own means). Elinor was aged 36 and from Worcester.
Their other children are:-
Barbara M……………aged 5.………..born Worcester
They also have two live in servants.
By the time of the 1911 census the 12 year old William Adam Ferrar was recorded as a Boarder at a School at Grove Road, Burnham, Somerset. His parents were recorded at The Hollies, Oulton Cross, Stone, Staffordshire. Father William Moore, is now an Earthenware Manufacturer.and is an Employer in his own right. Wife Elinor Margaret is 46. The couple have been married for 22 years and have had 4 children, of which only two were then still alive.None were at home when the 1911 census was taking place. It looks like the 15 year old Barbara is also at Boarding School, attending the Felixstowe Girls School, Upper Belgrave Road, Clifton, Bristol.
The death of the 21 year old William A F Binns was recorded in the Erpingham District of Norfolk that covers Mundesley in the April to June 1920 quarter.
5th and 6th (Reserve) Battalions
August 1914 : in Winchester. Depot/training units, they moved on mobilisation to Sheerness and remained in this area throughout the war. In 1918 the 6th Bn was at nearby Queenborough. Both were part of the Thames & Medway Garrison.
18th (Service) Battalion (Arts & Crafts)
Formed at Gidea Park in London by Major Sir Herbert Raphael on 4 June 1915.
October 1915 : moved to Witley and attached to 122nd Brigade in 41st Division. Moved to Aldershot in November 1915, on to Witley in February and thence back to Aldershot.
3 May 1916 : landed at Le Havre.
November 1917 : moved with the Division to Italy but returned to France in March 1918.
However by 1920 most of the War Service Battalions had been disbanded - there were a few serving in the Russian Civil War but the 18th wasn’t one of them.
