Inspirations: Amanda Lear -- queen of Chinatown
well maybe not Chinatown, except as the term is used in the gay/tranny/disco underground. In which she most definitely is THE queen (Liz Torres notwithstanding). For 30 years now Lear, whose husky, mannish vocals tease the listener who knows (or thinks she knows) the rumors that Lear is a TS, has sung her updated, po-mo versions of German lieder to a disco beat, funky music, Eurodisco (the great "Assasino" especially), and, of late, French variete. She also hots her own "emission" on French FM radio. Is said to be 60 years old. Looks absolutely fabulous, too.
NOTE: Salvador Dali "discovered" her, David Bowie championed her, Roxy Music used her on several album covers. Not bad sponsorship for a gal who knows a thing or too about marketing...
