I LOVE hearing my sons read.. It astonishes me every time. I don't know, it's just something about hearing their young minds verbalize what's on a page with perfect articulation and understanding (I know because I will stop them mid sentence sometimes and quiz them on what they've just read) ..
My little man is reading CONSTANTLY!! So much so that he's already gotten 25 AR points in his reading system at school.. AND HE'S IN KINDERGARTEN!!! Put this in perspective: He gets a book from the library at school.. Reads it at home (in a night) and then takes a 5 question test on it in the library the next morning. Each question is worth .1.. YES, each exam if answered perfectly is only worth .5 points.. So you guessed it.. He's read 50 books already and it's only the FIRST SEMESTER!! There's 4th graders that don't have 25 points yet.
Oh, did I mention he's reading 3rd grade level books and is getting 2 books a night? Well he is.. Little man is a BEAST!!!
Reading is such a huge part of who I am because most of what I do is self taught. Whether it be my way of living (programming) or photography.. I never finished school so if I wanted to learn something, I had to rely on myself.
I decided I wanted to be a programmer, so I picked up a book and started reading. I think what I got from college was how to teach myself. I figured out how I learn. I guess that was invaluable considering I didn't stick around to finish.
