MS Nieuw Amsterdam
I figured a sort of "artsy" black and white shot would be a fun way to kick off the photos from our cruise. If it weren't for the modern forklift on the dock (pretend not to notice it), this photo looks like it could have come from the era when transatlantic crossings by ship were the common way to travel.
This was out first day of boarding, in San Diego. The Ship (which you'll see much more of in later photos), is the Holland America Line "MS Nieuw Amtserdam". She's a Signature Class cruise ship, 86,700 gross tons, and the length of three football fields. 2,200 passengers and 850 crew. This was our second time on the Nieuw Amsterdam, the first was our 4 day trip from Vancouver to San Diego (previous photos).
