Anthony Mak says: This shot shows that chromatic aberration can be a problem with this lens. Old non-APO technology shows itself up in this torture test.

Anthony Mak says: This shot shows it's bokeh can form cats eyes and hexagons given the right conditions on a sony a7.

Anthony Mak says: It can capture fantastic detail and it looks like it's resolving power is keeping up with modern digital 36MP sensors though I'd need to see a 100% crop to confirm. This shot is incredible - the detail in the dress is stunning (make sure you pixel peep especially her skirt). Plays well on a Sony a7r.

Anthony Mak says: Close up shots look good, but it's lacking the microcontrast of more modern lenses. However, this was taken on a Panasonic with a 2x crop factor and it holds up well. The bokeh might be a lot busier with a less well controlled lens.

Anthony Mak says: This shot has lens flare, which could be a problem - though in this shot it provides a crucial compositional element...yes, flare can sometimes be a good thing!

Anthony Mak says: Bokeh bordering on busy, but it's still holding together and what a fantastic shot. Plays well on a Sony a7.

Anthony Mak says: This shot seems to have the potential to create busy bokeh, but it's well controlled. Plays well on a Sony a7.

Anthony Mak says: Included this one just for a change of subject matter, but it's still a portrait of sorts. Bokeh, sharpness all good. Plays well on a Sony A7R II

Anthony Mak says: This shot was taken at f/1.8 was part of a side-by-side review against the Canon FD 85/1.2 L by Jeroen Terlingen using a Sony a7. Jeroen didn't think there was a winner, because the f/1.2 L was twice the weight and just too heavy. However, on image quality alone, the 1.2 L was the winner. You can read his review here: www.jeroenterlingen.com/blog/2015/8/24/canon-nfd-85mm-len...

Anthony Mak says: Viktor from www.VeryBigLobo.com seems to have had some interest in this lens, judging by the test shots on Flickr. This was shot at f/1.8 and the detail on the fabric is very good indeed. The bokeh of her friends is very creamy. What's not to like? It seems to play well on a Sony NEX-5N.

Anthony Mak says: Just a good example of how to use this lens well. As noted else where, flare seems to be a problem, though it's actually helped this photo achieve it's dreamy look.

Anthony Mak says: Finally a shot where we can examine it's cross frame sharpness at landscape distances. It was shot on a Sony NEX-5N, which is has a cropped sensor, however, the photographer also used a speedbooster, meaning additional optics in the adapter bent the light to such that the entire full-frame lens area was used. This lens is sharp corner to corner, edge to edge (assuming this image isn't cropped).

Anthony Mak says: This shot was taken on a Sony NEX-5N, and it handles the crop sensor exceptionally well. There's plenty of detail and it doesn't look at all soft.

Anthony Mak says: This shot uses not only a crop sensor to "zoom" in, but also a Raynox DCR-150 clip on macro lens, which attaches to the front of the lens. Top marks to both the Canon and Raynox for sharpness.

Anthony Mak says: Great capture but, I think it would look better more tightly cropped, so that you can see the action around the sprinkler head as there are drops of water falling which add to the drama of the horizontal spray. Plays well with a Son NEX-5N.

Anthony Mak says: Not the world's greatest shot, but good fur shots separate the men from the boys and this shot serves the lens well, as there's plenty of detail around the cat's face.
