August 17 - Poets converged in front of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) San Francisco on a powerful Day 17 of a Month of Actions to CLOSE THE CAMPS!

Kanyon (Coyote Woman) Sayers-Roods and native drummers led off the noon rally with words to ground the crowd in the roots that tie us together. “When we recognize that all of us have ancestors indigenous to the earth, when we recognize that we will honor our ancestors, that no matter where we come from, our ancestors are indigenous to those lands. We need to reconnect to these roots. [...] We ARE people of this earth. We have a responsibility to be stewards of these lands. We have a responsibility to each other to respect and honor our humility, our humanity, and how we are just people of this earth. We cannot own it. We cannot sell it. We should not degrade it. We should not damage her. [...] Let’s stand together, let’s celebrate our diversity and stand for humanity. Welcome to Yelamu. Welcome to Ohlone territory.”

Every day of this month of August, different groups or communities of interest are coming together outside the ICE building in San Francisco to CLOSE THE CAMPS.
