With the lizard climbing up a tree, some of the tail does not show so a larger image could be made of the rest of the lizard.

Another image of the lizard can be seen in the first comment section.

Looking for something different to photograph on a game drive, we came upon a rock monitor lizard up a tree broken in half in the middle. The lizard seemed not to mind as long as we did not get too close, so we took a few minutes to photograph it.

From Wikipedia - The rock monitor (Varanus albigularis), also called the legavaan or white-throated monitor, is a species of monitor lizard found in Central, East and southern Africa. It is the second-longest lizard found on the continent, and the heaviest bodied.

This monitor ranges in these areas: Central Africa (Democratic Republic of the Congo/Zaire), Southern Africa (Namibia, Botswana, Republic of South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Angola), the African Great Lakes (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania), and the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Somalia). It is found in a variety of dry habitats, including steppes, prairies, and savannahs, but is absent from desert interiors, rainforests, and thick scrub forests.
