☆☆☆ EXPLORED 03-07-2015 ☆☆☆

Gelmersee (or Lake Gelmer) is a reservoir in Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, operated by Kraftwerke Oberhasli. The reservoir's volume is 13 million m³, and its surface covers an area of 0.645 km². The artificial lake is located at an elevation of 1,850 m above sea level.

Lake Gelmer can be reached by the extremly steep Gelmerbahn, a funicular starting at Handegg (Handeck) at the Grimsel Pass road. With a maximum inclination of 106% (!!!) the Gelmer funicular track is said to be the steepest in Europe.

If you like the vertical dimension, you should book a ride on Gelmerbahn, when you are in Switzerland next time.
