Pak-Ou Caves

The Pak-Ou Caves are located 25 km north of Luang Prabang, Laos, overlooking the Mekong river.

The Pak-Ou Caves are one of the most respected holy sites in Laos. They have a long history as a shrine to the river spirit and Lord Buddha. Packed with over 4,000 mostly wooden Buddha statues, the caves are cut in a limestone cliff at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers. There are two caves to be visited, the lower cave called Tham Ting and the upper cave Tham Theung.

Visitors usually travel by boat on the Mekong river from Luang Prabang to the caves. There is no road access.
