Making the most out of a tiny dorm desk
The desk I'm used to: www.flickr.com/photos/42736403@N08/7082176541/in/set-7215...
I had no desire to move from my triple-display ass-kicking desktop Hackintosh to a laptop just because I was going to college, so the desktop came with me. I had to sacrifice one monitor and my giant HP color LaserJet, but that's it. I'm making do just fine with two 22-inchers.
For audio, I left the Edirol micro-monitors at home in favor of a stereo. I eBayed a 1981 Yamaha R-300 for about $90 and combined it with some Yamaha bookshelf speakers and a Pioneer sub I picked up at Goodwill to make one epic dorm room stereo.
Notice the little AirPort Express under my stereo? Yeah, that's technically not allowed here. We're not allowed to have any wireless access points, or routers. But I'm being low-key about it, I have the Tx power at 50% and the channel set as to not interfere with the res hall network. I have it acting as an access point tied into my desktop via a second Ethernet card. I use Internet Connection Sharing in Mac OS to provide the connection.
Oh, and the current specs on my PowerHac i5:
i5 2500 @3.5Ghz | GA-P67x-UD3-B3 | 16GB DDR3 | 550Ti 1GB | 2x120GB Vertex 3 in RAID0
