Super _____
Fill in the blank. Yeah ... I shot this for you football fans for Super Bowl Sunday. I don't really follow football, (football was over for me when Joe Montana retired) and I'm ashamed to tell you that I don't even know who is in the Super Bowl... New England and someone else... and lots of commercials,.... and food.... and lots of hoopla! Enjoy. So, this is my tribute to Super Bowl Sunday. And now....
For me.... Super ____ HERO!!!! Had one of my favorite clients sit down next to my desk this week and say... "May 21.... Super Hero Half Marathon. I registered... and next time I come in, I want to see your registration, because we are doing it." My first thought.... I get to wear a cape!!! I get to wear my red, white and blue sneakers and Captain America gear!! OH YES!!! Followed quickly by my second thought..... 13.1 freakin' long miles and I haven't run in months... and I'm not sure I can do that (I'm pretty sure it will be a real struggle) .... and I really don't want to embarrass myself... but the thought of being able to run in the streets, wearing a cape, with other people dressed like Super Heroes is really going to be tough to say no to. 13.1 miles. (My third thought was about how cool it is that I work with amazing people that would even consider dragging me out to run a half marathon, followed by yet another thought.... I hope he knows CPR.) So at the end of the day, I asked the shooting instructor... what do you think... do I have to run that half marathon? His response .... "What's the down side? ... upside is you get to train, you get to do something to take your mind off of all the other crap you have going on, you get out of the house, and it's healthy. What's the downside?" (Well... It could kill me.... I guess that's the downside... but that also gets my mind off of other crap I have going on... so, yeah...what's the downside?) I worked at Kohls today... and told a friend about it.... I said, "Come on, we can go to Party City and pick out capes." He just stared... never answered me. Then I went into the office and told one of the managers... her first response... "We get to wear costumes? I can wear a cape? I'm in!" High five!! Now THAT's the reaction I was looking for..... and now ..... there are three of us. I told her that I wasn't sure I could actually run 13.1 miles... and she said, So what.... we can stroll over the finish line."NO! If I am going to do this... I WILL run across the finish line, no matter what. And then a final remark from someone else in the office.... "Well, Torrie.... if you are going to run across the finish line you have to make sure you get there before they take it down." Yup... welcome, to my world.... where there's never a discouraging word.... yeah. I now have less than four months to make sure that I can run 13.1 miles. Wish me luck....
