For the Stranger...
No, not the one that my horoscope Keeps telling me that I am going to meet... the younger, artsy one that is supposed to take me on vacation ... (yeah, right... but that’s what my horoscope has told me a few times... keep a bag packed.... yeah, it’s in the trunk of my car, I have yet to need it!!) ... Not THAT stranger....
For the stranger that I did meet.... the man that I had never met before, and had not even spoken to, ever.... standing on Main St in Bar Harbor, in the dark, with a camera bag in his hand ... because I had said that I would pick him up and make sure he got to see sunrise from Cadillac Mountain .... (because, hey! Even strangers should get to see sunrise at Cadillac Mountain, even if they have no way to get there on their own!) ...
And he had to figure out how to get to the place where I was supposed to be taking him .... and we almost didn’t make it in time .... and then he had to lend me a memory card .... and I took him to a really “great” place for lunch where they served giant “taco sub sandwiches” on napkins... without plates (ok, you had to see it to believe it) .... and grab bag ice cream (remember grab bags?!!) ... and six months later, he still speaks to me. lol! Yeah, THAT stranger!
Happy Birthday to THAT stranger, who is now my friend. I wish you the best that this day has to offer, this day and every day, as you and Sydney begin a new chapter of your lives in South Carolina, at the beach. (sigh... lucky, lucky you!!) Thank you for your encouragement, for believing in me (why, I have no idea!!), for listening and for talking me through stuff. Thank you for being a friend.
You can pick me up when you are heading north, back to Maine, I’ll be packed and ready... we have lots more places to explore and I want to show you Wild Blueberry Land!! I’ll be waiting right here... with a map... and a replacement for your memory card that you lent me, which I will return to you in person ... and you know I’ll take you to ALL the BEST places to eat (we can only hope that a few of them will actually have plates!) lol!! Can’t wait.... right?!!
Happy, Happy Birthday Bob!!
