Marlton Substation
A Public Service Electric substation in Marlton NJ.
When Public Service was planning to build this in 1966 the town objected to how it would look and wanted it to be enclosed in a building, which wasn't possible. Since PS is a public utility they didn't require any approval, but compromised by building a brick wall across the front - which was removed when the facility was later expanded. I guess it made for good public relations, but this was originally surrounded by part of an apple orchard so the trees screened much of it anyway.
There was a massive night-time explosion here in 1994 when a wild animal reportedly got into the equipment and caused a short circuit.
