Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station

A LE study of the cooling stacks and chimneys at Ratcliffe Power Station, Nottinghamshire.

The cooling stacks look almost like aliens, as if they are from Dr Who or something, or like they are on guard and regimented. I guess in the winter months, you get a lot more steam (it probably looks like a space shuttle taking off), but I kind of like the wispy smoke and sky over a longer exposure here. I kept on (trying?) to crop this square in post production, it just was not working this way, it's only when I cropped to 5X4 I was happy with to composition, I guess I automatically crop Square, as I like this format, but that wasn't how I perceived the image while standing in a windy field in Nottinghamshire, my idea through the viewfinder was a landscape (ish) image .

I had to play about with my F settings while composing this shot, in order to get the effect I wanted (it didn't quite work the same way for me at F11), and got a bit of grain to contend with, but I (think?) it adds to the rather menacing and ominous look to the towers (or the Gates of Mordor if you prefer!!). Thanks again for all your recent likes/comments, lovely people all of you :)
