1952 Standard Vanguard Phase 1A Saloon

The Standard Vanguard Phase I was built from 1947-53.

The 1952 Phase 1A; the bonnet came lower and it got a more open 3 bar grille and a larger rear window, it still had the beetle back.

The 1953-56 Phase II had a similar front end as the Phase 1A, but a four light body and more conventional 'notchback' style rear, which included wider rear doors and an extended boot.

Standard Cars were also built in Australia by Eclipse Motors in Melbourne and T.J.Richards in Adelaide from CKD kits. Eclipse Motors became the Standard Motor Company in 1952 and from 1958; Australian Motor Industries (AMI).

A coupe utility version was also produced in Australia. The Phase II was badged the Spacemaster.

In New Zealand, Motor Assemblies South Island Ltd in Christchurch assembled Standard 8s and the Vanguard.
