a school, mosque, dorm. pre-requisite for admission was to be: hafiz-e quran. after passing that test the student could study for as long as they wanted, as many disciplines as one desired for free. no yearly exam, just one exam when the student wanted to take it to leave.
5 elements of decoration:
1. marble. imported from italy in exchange for moroccan sugar
2. mosaic. 360 + patterns made from gray clay from the quarries of fes.
3. calligraphy. all verses of the Quran
4. stucco. hand-carved where craftsmen was paid according to the dust they collected from their chiseling
5. cedar wood. everlasting!
