TANGOS DINING ROOM

It was about this time, around June of 1995, that things once more took a turn for the better. There must be something about the month of June that’s good for our family. One year after opening the Source, Dee Dee called with good news.

“I’m opening a restaurant,” she said.

“What do you know about restaurants?” I asked.

“Nothing,” she admitted. “But didn’t grandma and grandpa have restaurants in Romania?”

My family had run successful restaurants back in Cluj, so Dee Dee was right. The restaurant business was in our genes.

“They did.”

“Well, if they could do it, so can I,” Dee Dee asserted.

And so Dee Dee opened the restaurant in the building we bought. Within weeks of its June 7th opening it was bustling with people.

Dee Dee’s restaurant soon became a destination place in town, drawing customers like Alice Walton and her brothers, who owned Wal-Mart; members of the Tyson family, which owned Tyson Foods, and the owners of J.B. Hunt. It was an amazing restaurant and a tribute to Dee Dee’s business acumen that without any food service experience that she was able to develop such a successful place.

Dee Dee was a hard worker. She knew what she wanted. The restaurant experience taught her the most important life lesson – when you love what you do for a living, you give it your best and do whatever it takes to get the job done every day.Add a captionIt was about this time, around June of 1995, that things once more took a turn for the better.
