Scraper without Handle
Here you can see how I have removed the wooden handle on the ice scraper and slightly driven the scraper behind the fro to widen the split. Once it is set about 2" into the bolt I begin striking it in earnest with the 60 oz. dead blow hammer. The sound of the oak grain splitting is music to my ears. The ice scraper does most of the work while the fro is used more in its traditional role of directing the split through the bolt and keeping proper shingle thickness.
