illegal asbestos cleanup at michigan central station
building owner detroit international bridge company representative claims "didn't know" asbestos was in this decades old abandoned eyesore (despite having asbestos company visually survey it months prior), but had teenage volunteers and untrained dibc employees cleanup tons of contaminated debris anyway. michigan epa and osha inspectors subsequently found evidence of asbestos and other toxic materials at the site. here's a link to an online osha citation summary page for this incident:

interesting, especially since the building was being called "pre-asbestos" and the debris was being called "DIRT" by individuals involved at the cleanup event. exactly how do piles of "dirt" with insulated pipes running through it wind up on tile floors in the middle of the building anyway? what do you think that deteriorated fibrous stuff is being shoveled from around those old pipes?
by the way, where is all the safety gear for these volunteer workers? tennis shoes? shorts? no safety glasses? no protective coveralls? no hard hats? no dust controls? no dust masks or filtered respirators?
terribly sad to think that volunteers' health (& dibc employees) were put at such risk for the rest of their lives, and that penalties amount to a few thousand dollars. literally chump change to a greedy billionaire and thoughtless corporation. mohyi and stamper thought this would be a great pr stunt?
