The Dark Knight: Knight of Gotham #47

As I practise my swordplay an alert rings out from the Batcomputer. He's come out of hiding. I race up to see the live feed from the City Hall emergency broadcast system where the Knight is monologuing to the camera, holding Mayor West close with his katana against the Mayor's neck. As he continues to talk to the camera I hit the alarm for the house signalling for everyone to come down the cave.

"For too long this city has allowed itself to be govern by figures in the shadows. The Batman, his disciples, the cowards at the GCPD. They all claim to serve the will of the people, in fact they seek to control your will."

"The Knight?"

"Yeah, he's finally stepped into the light. He's at..."

"City Hall. It's on every channel, couldn't shut him up even if I wanted to."

"It's the emergency broadcast system, meant to go out to every tv in Gotham."

"You think my Dad's with him?"

"Almost certainly. Suit up."

It takes us a couple of minutes to put our suit on, by that time Alfred's deactivated the alert.

"Bloody thing is always so loud, I swear I'm going to get it dismantled one of these days."

"Well if you weren't slowly losing your hearing I wouldn't need to make some bloody loud."

"Thank goodness you don't treat the scum of Gotham like you treat me. Otherwise they'd hate you even more than they already do."

"I don't think it's possible Al."

"Where there's a will there's a way Tim. You of all people should know that."

"Tell me about it."

Unbeknownst to Tim I checked the CCTV footage from the previous night when his father as taken. I saw Miss Brown come to his aid during his fight with the mercenaries. An impressive display to say the least. I wanted to talk with him about it, but given his outburst after returning to the cave I felt it best to leave the ball in his court.

He'll tell me when he wants to.

"Let's move out. City Hall isn't going to save itself."

Tim says nothing but places his mask on his face and raises his hood. He's first to leave the cave and climbs into the Batwing.

"He'll be alright Master Bruce. One you've both made sure his father is safe things will be back to normal. I promise."

"I don't think things will ever be the same Alfred. Gotham's changing. The only question really is, whether or not it's changing for the better."

"Time will tell Master Bruce. It always does."

"We can only hope."

With that I pull my cowl on over my head and climb into the cockpit of the Batwing.

It's time to end this. Once and for all.
