The Dark Knight: Knight of Gotham #25

As the Batmobile roars out of the cave and towards Gotham I set the scanner to pick up any and all GCPD transmissions. If Standler or the Knight make an appearance I'll know. Fortunately it doesn't take long before something comes in fro the Batcomputer. A silent alarm was tripped at the old refinery just moments ago. The old refinery hasn't been in service since my parents were gunned down in Crime alley, primarily due to Gotham's gas stores being depleted. Since then all of Gotham's gas has been supplied by a facility twenty miles out of Metropolis and whilst the pipes that connect the facility with Gotham are buried underground , the old refinery is used to distribute the gas supplies to the various districts of Gotham. As such the old refinery has tight security consisting of automated security drones armed with tasers. If the silent alarm has gone off that means the drones have been disabled which is anything but good.

If someone is able to ignite the gas within the pipes at the old refinery there's no telling what damage they can create in Gotham or on what scale. With this high level threat in mind I choose to make a turn on my journey towards Gotham. I turn left instead of right at the usual junction and head towards the old refinery. Given Wayne Manor is only a couple of miles away I'll be the first responder on the scene. Then again when aren't I the first responder these days?

In less than five minutes I make it to the refinery. Given how I'm unsure as to who or what I'm dealing with I park the bat mobile out of view and engage stealth precautions meaning it will only engage something if it's been compromised. In the meantime I quickly grapple up to the security booth where the unconscious maintenance worker resides. He's the only person who should be here in the refinery so with that in mind I quickly activate the pressure sensors in the facility. It only takes a couple of seconds for me to find where the intruder is. He's at the main pipeline and according to the pressure it's just one guy. This may be easier than I thought.

With that I make my way to the main pipeline choosing to remain hidden in the support beams above. I currently hold the element of surprise. It's a powerful advantage and I don't wish to dispose of it until I know what I'm dealing with. To my shock though it's not what I expected at all. You'd expect someone hoping to hold the city for ransom, heck maybe even Garfield Lynns given his love for pyrotechnics not Buddy Standler or all people.

Stander's presence here has me immediately suspicious that this is possibly a trap of some sorts. After all the Crimson Knight chose to spring him from the medical centre for a reason, but what is it? With all the various options racing through my head I scan the area with my thermal and there's no visible sign of a trap, but still what sort of trap would it be if I could see it coming?

The only option really is to spring the trap and see what happens as a result. As a precaution I engage the emergency bat mobile controls in my gauntlets so if it is a trap I can call the bat mobile to me by placing my hands over my head as if I were surrendering. With that I pounce from the shadows and glide down towards Standler. Just before I make contact with Standler I readjust my body and place my legs out in front and they connect with Standler's torso with the full force of my body behind them. As Standler falls to the ground and drops both of his condiment dispensers I charge forward at him immediately.

I want to know why the Crimson Knight chose to recruit him of all people....
