'Moveable Type'

 

A fascinating installation in the lobby of The New York Times Building. Designed by Ben Rubin and Mark Hansen, there are two walls with 560 (280 a wall) small, vacuum fluorescent screens that cull from the newspaper's database snippets of stories, articles, obituaries and the like. It is constantly changing with a tickity-tickity type sound each time a new batch comes in.

March 1, 2023, Yonkers, NY

A man was arrested today for unlawful discharging of a firearm in public. According to witnesses, at about 8 PM, a man entered the Voluptuous Vixens strip bar on Lockwood Ave brandishing a machine gun type weapon. NYPD Officer Gary Trenton said that apparently, "...all the guys just kept staring all googly-like at the bevy of performers on the stage and simply didn't see the exaggerated arm movements pointing at the guy, nor hear the panicked shouting the dancers were making towards the incoming danger. There eyes were elsewhere, I suppose." Two of the bouncers finally caught on and wrestled him to the floor but, not before a multitude of rounds were sent into the ceiling and at the bar. An interview with one of the patrons, only going by the name Slick, said, "I guess..."
