You Always Remember...
A week or so ago, I was taking a bunch of photos to amass this The King of Kool and the Other King of Cool collage and decided to take the opportunity to also photograph a selection of my old concert ticket stubs (they have been kept in that same road case for many years). It's not perfect but, if you are so inclined to view in detail, this is some of what you will find:
Humble Pie - Garden City Arena, St. Catharines (my first concert) 1972
Lighthouse and Evel Knievel - CNE, Toronto (one of the strangest double-bills ever, I think. The Canadian band played a set and then Evel proceeded to make his motorcycle fly over a bunch of trucks) 1974
Torontonians for Trudeau - Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto (another weird one... not even sure why I went, must have been some band I wanted to see... anyway, this was for Pierre, the father of our current Prime Minister) 1979
Rory Gallagher - Fresh Club (now The Guverment), Toronto (I knew a guy who worked there and he got me up to meet Rory and actually hold his beloved and legendary Stratocaster in my hands... what a thrill that was!) 1985
The others (from the top):
Gentle Giant
Chris de Burgh
City Boy
The Tubes
Jeff Beck - Mahavishnu Orchestra
Guess Who - Edgar Winter's White Trash
Santana (twice)
Asia
Bill Bruford (twice, the El Mocambo stub being the first show)
Billy Cobham (drum clinic)
The Beach Boys
Doobie Brothers
Return to Forever
**Of Note: In the first comment box is a ticket stub for King Crimson at The Concert Hall (formerly The Rock Pile, Masonic Temple), 1981. Not too long ago, Richard S Warner (Visionheart - Remain in Light !!!) and I figured out that we both attended this concert and I always love the idea of this: two people meet up many years later and who, unbeknownst at the time, may have actually bumped shoulders, or shared comments... I like to think I told him to 'f' off when he butted in front of me at the intermission snack bar!
I guess, an image about music should have some kind of actual music link and so, since you never forget your first time :-) 'Four Day Creep' - Humble Pie (Performance - Live at the Fillmore East).
