Oct. 1938: VOYAGER [I], in a dawn arrival or departure at Melbourne - A.C. Green [1878-1954] SLV.
6583. A second view of what we believe to have been HMAS VOYAGER [I]'s cruise south to Victorian and Tasmanian waters in Oct., 1938. In the mid-to-latter stages of the Great Depression, VOYAGER had been laid up in Sydney for two years, between April 1936 to April 1938.
We think this photograph was taken after she recommissioned under the command of then-LCDR James C. Morrow, RAN.
This is another of the three images catalogued at the SLV under the erroneous heading 'MELBOURNE,' the location rather than the ship's name. The third of these images is almost exactly similar to this one.
Photo; Allan C. Green, Green Collection, State Library of Victoria [La Trobe Library], Accession NO. H91.325/1385.
